



November 13, 2009 – Ian Boyd moderated a panel at the INTA Leadership conference in Miami Beach, Florida. Mr. Boyd's panel was entitled Absolutely Scrabulous: Encountering Unauthorized Uses in New Media. From Facebook to the iPhone, from Twitter to Flickr, there are ever increasing avenues for brand owners to encounter unauthorized uses of their marks, including third parties who successfully adopt such uses in a new medium/platform before the brand owner is ready to plant the flag. This session discussed how to police such conduct, appropriate thresholds for when to take action, and the means to enforce against such activity with a careful eye towards public relations, business solutions, and company good will.
November 4, 2009 - Peter Harvey moderated a panel at this symposium sponsored by the McCarthy Institute for Intellectual Property and Technology Law. Mr. Harvey's panel, entitled eBay Cases, Platform Liability and Online Marketplace Issues, discussed the possible secondary liability of marketplace sites and other internet service providers arising out of the sale of counterfeit goods on the internet. The seminar was held at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where Mr. Harvey has taught Entertainment & Media Law for eight years.
August 13, 2009 - Matthew Stratton presented a "Trade Dress Basics" seminar on Thursday, August 13 at the S.F. Bar Association. Trade Dress is a type of trademark protection that protects a product's total image and appearance, including its packaging. Case studies regarding store-brand vs. national-brand product packaging were also reviewed. Organized by the San Francisco Paralegal Association.
June 5, 2009 - Lawrence J. Siskind participated in a panel at Harvard College, at his 35th year reunion on Friday, June 5th. The panel discussed “The Intersection of Technology and Creativity.” Mr. Siskind spoke on publicity rights law.
May 28, 2009 - Seth I. Appel presented a “Copyright Basics” seminar on Thursday, May 28th, 2009. Organized by the IP Section Committee Chair of the San Francisco Paralegal Association, this presentation addressed the fundamentals of copyright law, as well as recent cases in this evolving field.

February 25, 2009 - Seth I. Appel conducted a seminar on copyright law for the Napa Valley Artists Association. The seminar, entitled Copyright: What Every Artist Should Know, covered subjects ranging from copyright protection, duration, and registration to infringement litigation and other enforcement techniques.
